MaxAI.me Alternatives for Browser AI

A maxai alternative shortlist, checked against MaxAI's own pricing page and Chrome listing on 25 Sep 2026, for anyone who wants a private prompt library, not an all-in-one browser copilot.

TL;DR: Looking for a maxai alternative? MaxAI.me is alive and heavily used, checked 25 September 2026, with 700,000 Chrome users and a 4.7-star rating. But its own pages still advertise o1, GPT-4o, Claude-3.5 and Gemini-1.5, all superseded models, its refund policy is "all payments are final and non-refundable", and its pricing shifts between a plain $20/month Pro plan and a discount-banner-driven Elite tier. Below is what to check before you pick a replacement, and where each real alternative actually wins.

Is MaxAI.me still around, and is it still worth using?

Short answer: yes, it's a large, active product. On 25 September 2026, maxai.me loaded cleanly, its title reads "MaxAI: Chat with any webpage. Read faster. Write better.", and its Chrome Web Store listing (mhnlakgilnojmhinhkckjpncpbhabphi) shows 700,000 users, a 4.7 out of 5 rating from 14.5K ratings, version 8.37.3, and an update date of August 24, 2026. Whatever else this piece finds, "abandoned" is not one of them. That update cadence and user count put it well ahead of several tools in this category we've covered before, where a stale Chrome listing was the actual complaint.

MaxAI.me's own pitch is broader than a prompt tool. Its homepage meta description reads: "Summarize, search, explain, analyze, translate, write, and more. Save hours every day. Powered by o1, GPT-4o, Claude-3.5, and Gemini-1.5." That's a page-level AI copilot: a sidebar that reads whatever tab you're on, answers questions about it, drafts replies, and generates images, all from one Chrome extension. It's a different shape of product than a prompt manager, and that distinction matters more than any feature checklist below.

Why are people looking for a MaxAI.me alternative?

A few concrete things showed up on a direct check of MaxAI's own pages, not from a review site or a forum thread.

The model roster its own pages advertise is out of date. The homepage meta description names "o1, GPT-4o, Claude-3.5, and Gemini-1.5" as what powers the product, checked 25 September 2026. The pricing page's feature-comparison table goes further: its "Fast AI responses" tier lists GPT-4o-mini, Claude-3.5-Haiku, Gemini-1.5-Flash and Llama-3.2-90B; its "Smart AI responses" tier lists GPT-4o, Claude-3.5-Sonnet, Gemini-1.5-Pro, Llama-3.1-405B and Mistral-Large-2; and its "Reasoning AI responses" tier, marked "Limited beta", lists o1-mini and o1-preview. Every one of those model names is a generation behind what its own underlying providers ship as of this check, and the reasoning tier is still calling out a beta-labeled model line. That's not a claim about output quality — we didn't test it — it's a claim about what MaxAI's own marketing currently says it runs on, and it reads like a page that hasn't been refreshed alongside the models it depends on.

Pricing is a discount banner, not a stable number. MaxAI's pricing page, checked the same day, shows a plain Free at $0/month and Pro at $20/month, then a separate Elite card marked "Limited time: Save 53%", striking through a $40/month list price down to $19/month billed yearly. That's a real, currently-running promotion, not an error on our part, but it means the number you'll actually pay depends on which banner is live the day you sign up, and the page gives no indication of what Elite costs without the discount, month to month.

All sales are final. The same pricing page states it directly, in the fine print under the payment button: "all payments are final and non-refundable." If a subscription doesn't do what you expected in the first week, MaxAI's own terms give you no path back. Prompt Architects publishes a 14-day refund window on its own pricing page; several other tools in this piece publish a free trial instead of a paid commitment with no refund. Either is a lower-risk way to try something new than a policy that rules out a refund entirely.

Team pricing isn't on the pricing page. The FAQ section of maxai.me/pricing answers "Does MaxAI offer team plans?" with "Yes, MaxAI does offer team plans." and links out to a separate /pricing/team/ page for the actual number, meaning what you'd pay for a team isn't published where you're already comparing individual tiers. That's a small thing, but it's one more click before you can actually compare team cost against a competitor's.

None of this means MaxAI.me doesn't work. It means the page selling it isn't as clean as the number of users on its Chrome listing would suggest, and a few minutes on the primary source turns up more than a glance at the homepage would.

MaxAI.me vs Prompt Architects, checked on the same day

We make Prompt Architects, so treat this table as a starting point to verify yourself, not a neutral ranking. Every row was checked directly against each product's own site or Chrome Web Store listing on 25 September 2026.

Two rows are worth a second look. MaxAI's Chrome user count is 700 times ours, and that's a real signal about reach, not a number to argue with. And the underlying-model row cuts against MaxAI in a way its raw popularity doesn't fix: a huge install base tells you a product got distribution right, not that its current marketing copy is accurate about what it runs today.

Other real MaxAI.me alternatives, checked today

If what you actually want from MaxAI.me is the page-level copilot, not a prompt library, these are closer matches. Each was checked directly on 25 September 2026, and we cover each in more depth elsewhere.

Sider. Its pricing page (sider.ai/pricing) advertises "10M+ active users" and "100K+ 5-star ratings", plus a Chrome Awards "Editors' Picks 2026" badge, and a credit-based plan structure starting with Nano at US$10/month and Lite at US$25/month, each with a monthly credit allowance rather than a flat message cap. Its own copy names current-generation models: "Understand anything with GPT-6, Claude Fable 5.1, DeepSeek, Gemini, and more". Sider also bundles a browser automation agent (called Hand) and an in-browser code tool, going further into automating actions on a page than MaxAI does. We cover it hands-on, with a full 30-day test, in our Sider AI review, and compare it directly against us in Prompt Architects vs Sider.

HARPA AI. Its pricing page (harpa.ai/pricing) runs two structures side by side: subscription tiers billed by "megatokens" (its own unit for cloud AI usage), and a one-time X-tier lifetime option for people who'd rather bring their own API keys. Its FAQ describes both subscription tiers as sharing "the same Cloud AI connections (GPT-5.4, Sonnet 4.6, Gemini 3.1 Pro, DeepSeek, Perplexity and more)", and there's a free DEMO plan with published limits. HARPA leans further into automation than either MaxAI or Sider — it can fill forms, monitor pages and run scheduled tasks. Full detail in our HARPA AI review and our HARPA alternatives roundup.

Merlin. Its pricing page (getmerlin.in/pricing) lists Free at $0, Pro at $19/month, and Teams at $180/year per seat (minimum 2 seats), with a feature-comparison table naming Claude Opus 4.6 and Claude Sonnet 4.6 as "NEW", alongside GPT 5.2, Grok 4.1 Fast and Gemini 3.0 Pro. Merlin's free tier is explicit about the trade-off most of these tools leave vague: 10 messages a day on its higher-end models, scaling up on paid plans. See our Merlin AI alternatives piece for the full breakdown, including its credit math.

Monica. Its pricing page (monica.im/pricing) is genuinely harder to summarize in one line: it runs a multi-tier structure with a short free trial on sign-up, and its own copy notes that "Monica's Max plan (formerly Unlimited) remains in beta testing." The plan was renamed, but its benefits, including an AI Agent feature, carried over unchanged. That kind of mid-flight renaming is worth knowing before you commit to a specific tier name in a screenshot or a review you read last month. Our Monica AI review walks the current tier structure in full.

If you're choosing between two of these rather than picking one outright, we've also written HARPA vs Sider and Sider vs Monica as direct head-to-heads.

Where MaxAI.me is genuinely the better pick

A page that only ever says "switch to us" isn't a comparison, it's an ad. Here's where MaxAI.me is the right call.

If you want one tool that reads the page you're on. Prompt Architects never looks at your browser tab. It only sees what you type into it. MaxAI's whole design is built around the opposite: summarizing an article, explaining a paragraph, translating a page, or drafting a reply to an email you have open, all without you copying anything. That's a real, different job, and if it's the job you have, a prompt manager is the wrong tool regardless of which one you pick.

If reach and community size matter to you. 700,000 Chrome users and 14.5K ratings is a real signal that a lot of people have used this tool long enough to leave a review. That's not proof of quality on its own, but it means MaxAI's rough edges, if any, are more likely to have already surfaced publicly than a smaller tool's would.

If you want image generation bundled with everything else. MaxAI's pricing page lists direct image generation, including DALL·E 3, FLUX.1 and Stable Diffusion 3 access, inside the same subscription as its text tools. We don't generate images at all; Prompt Architects writes the prompt you'd hand to an image tool, but stops there.

If 55 languages of UI coverage matters for your team. MaxAI's Chrome listing shows support across 55 interface languages. That's a genuinely broad footprint for a non-English-first team evaluating tools by whether the product itself, not just its output, works in their language.

How do you migrate off MaxAI.me without losing anything?

No export button was documented on maxai.me or its pricing page as of 25 September 2026, so treat this as a manual move.

MAXAI.ME MIGRATION CHECKLIST

1. Open every saved chat, custom prompt or writing snippet you rely on inside the
MaxAI sidebar and copy the raw text out. No bulk-export feature is documented.

2. Note which model you were actually using for each saved item (its comparison
table separates "Fast," "Smart," "Reasoning" and "Image" tiers). Your rewritten
prompt may need re-testing on whatever model your new tool defaults to.

3. Paste each item into your new tool, tagged the same way you organized it in
MaxAI, so nothing lands in an unsorted pile on the other side.

4. If you were on a paid Elite or Pro plan, cancel through Stripe's customer
portal from "Your Plan" per MaxAI's own instructions, before your next billing
date — remember, refunds are not offered after the fact.

5. Re-test anything time-sensitive (a translation, a summary you relied on) once
it's live in the new tool. A page-level copilot and a prompt manager don't
always produce the same output from the same input.

Which MaxAI.me alternative should you actually pick?

Match the tool to the job you actually have, not to whichever name shows up first in search.

  1. You want a private prompt library that works the same way inside ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, with no per-token bill. Pick Prompt Architects. Free is 5 enhancements a day, forever, per our own FAQ checked 25 September 2026; Pro starts at $4.99/month with a 14-day refund window if it's not for you.
  2. You want a sidebar that reads and acts on whatever page you're looking at. Pick MaxAI.me, Sider, or HARPA. All three do this; MaxAI and Sider lean toward reading and writing, HARPA leans further into automating multi-step tasks.
  3. You want the biggest, most reviewed option and don't mind managing credits instead of a flat plan. Pick MaxAI.me or Sider. Both publish large user counts and rating volumes, and both meter usage in some form of credits rather than a flat unlimited tier.
  4. You want a one-time payment instead of a subscription. Pick HARPA's X-tier or bring your own API keys elsewhere. Neither MaxAI nor Prompt Architects offers a one-time-purchase path today.
  5. You want the cheapest entry price for a full multi-model copilot. Compare Merlin's $19/month Pro plan against MaxAI's $20/month Pro plan directly; the feature sets aren't identical, so read both pricing pages before deciding on price alone.
  6. You've already decided you want a private library and just need to know if we're worth switching to. Try the Free plan first. It costs nothing, requires no card, and will tell you in a day or two whether "prompt-first, not page-first" is actually the workflow you wanted.

None of these five is a strict upgrade over MaxAI.me. Each trades away something it has, in exchange for something it doesn't, and the honest version of this article is the one that tells you which trade you're actually making before you make it.
