TL;DR: Looking for a spaceprompts alternative? SpacePrompts is alive and actively updated, checked 17 September 2026, with a generous free plan, version history and a REST API. Switch only for something it lacks: image and video prompt generation or an MCP server (Prompt Architects), cheaper storage (Keep My Prompts), or developer-grade prompt ops (Langfuse, PromptLayer).
Is SpacePrompts still around, and what does it do now?
Yes, and it is more capable than its size suggests. On 17 September 2026, spaceprompts.com loaded with the page title "AI Prompt Manager - Organize & Sync Prompts | SpacePrompts" and a release banner reading "v4.1.0 · Role-based permissions for team members". This is not an abandoned side project.
The homepage describes a five-step loop: write a prompt in the Playground, score it with an Evaluator, keep every save as a version, share it into a team workspace, and fetch it into your own app over HTTPS. That last step is the unusual one. The site says a single API call pulls the current version into your app, with "No SDK required." Most browser prompt managers stop at copy and paste.
The browser extension adds a floating toolbar inside supported AI tools with Save as Prompt, Enhance and Apply buttons, per its Chrome Web Store listing. The same listing describes a guest mode with unlimited prompts and no account, plus cloud sync once you sign in.
Store numbers, all checked 17 September 2026:
- Chrome Web Store: 5.0 from 8 ratings, 343 users, version 4.4.0, updated June 20, 2026.
- Firefox Add-ons: version 4.3.2, updated June 17, 2026, 0 ratings and 4 average daily users, per Mozilla's public add-on API.
- Edge Add-ons: a listing is linked from the SpacePrompts homepage; we did not check its figures.
Eight ratings is a small sample, and a 5.0 average on eight reviews tells you less than a 4.6 on eight hundred. Treat it as "early users like it", not as a quality ranking.
What does SpacePrompts cost?
The free plan costs nothing and stores up to 50 prompts. Paid plans, per the pricing page on 17 September 2026, are priced on annual billing:
| Plan | Price shown | Storage | AI usage | Notable extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 50 prompts | 3 enhancements, 3 generations, 3 Playground runs per day | Version history, BYOK, export to JSON or Excel, Chrome extension |
| Pro | $5/month, $60 billed annually | Unlimited | 300 of each per month | Custom prompt fields, API access, public sharing |
| Team | $9/month, $108 billed annually | Unlimited | 300 of each per month | Up to 5 members, shared library, role-based permissions |
The page says annual billing saves "up to 44%", but the monthly-billing prices sit behind a toggle and are not in the page's static HTML, so we have not listed them. Check the toggle before you commit.
Two details stand out. First, the free plan includes export to JSON and Excel, which lowers the risk of trying it. Second, Team is a flat $9 for up to five people. For a three-person team that is cheaper than most per-seat pricing, including ours.
The homepage FAQ also mentions a satisfaction guarantee: if you are unhappy, the company says it will work with you "to make it right or provide a refund". It does not publish a fixed refund window on that page.
Why do people look for a SpacePrompts alternative?
Not because the product is broken. Based on what the site and listings show, the common reasons are narrower:
- The daily AI allowance is small. Three enhancements and three generations a day on Free is enough to try the product, not to use it all day.
- Five is the team ceiling. The Team plan invites up to 5 members. A department of twelve needs something else, or a conversation with SpacePrompts about custom terms.
- No image or video prompt tooling is advertised. SpacePrompts' own site has separate free web tools for Midjourney and Sora prompts, but the core product is text-prompt management.
- No MCP server is mentioned. If you live in Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Cursor, a browser toolbar does not follow you there.
- It is early. 343 Chrome users is a small base. Some buyers prefer a tool with a longer track record, which is a fair concern for any young product, ours included.
If none of those apply to you, SpacePrompts may already be the right tool.
SpacePrompts vs Prompt Architects, checked on the same day
Every row below was checked on 17 September 2026 against each product's own site or store listing. We have tried to put the rows SpacePrompts wins first.
| Feature | Prompt Architects | SpacePrompts |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan can save prompts | Yes, up to 50 | |
| REST API to fetch prompts from your app | Pro and Team | |
| Export to JSON or Excel advertised | Not advertised | Yes, on Free |
| Built-in Playground to run prompts | ||
| Free AI enhancements | 5 per day | 3 per day |
| Image and video prompt generation | Image on Pro, video on Advanced and Team | Not in the core product |
| MCP server for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor | Not advertised | |
| Team size | 2 to 20 members | Up to 5 members |
| Entry paid price | $4.99/month (Pro, 200 prompts/month) | $5/month billed annually (Pro) |
| Chrome Web Store (17 Sep 2026) | 4.8 from 36 ratings, 1,000 users, v1.7.3 | 5.0 from 8 ratings, 343 users, v4.4.0 |
The first four rows are real reasons to stay on SpacePrompts. Free storage matters most: our Free plan gives you 5 prompt enhancements per day, per our FAQ, but cannot save prompts at all. Saving starts on Pro with 50 prompts, and unlimited storage is on Advanced at $9.99/month. If a free library is the whole point, SpacePrompts is the better deal.
The API row is the other big one. We do not offer API access. If your product needs to pull the live version of a prompt at runtime, SpacePrompts does that and we do not.
Which SpacePrompts alternative should you actually use?
Pick by the one feature you need most. The shortlist below is ordered by who it suits, not by a score.
Prompt Architects, if your prompts go into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and a long list of other AI tools, and you want help writing them rather than only storing them. The extension runs as a sidebar inside those tools, and our generator targets image and video models too (image prompts from Pro, video prompts on Advanced and Team). The MCP server brings the same improve, refine, shorten and enhance tools into Claude Desktop, Claude.ai, Claude Code, Cursor and Codex. Built-in AI is included on every plan, so no API key is needed. The trade-off is the one in the table: no free storage, no public API.
Keep My Prompts, if cheap storage is the priority. Its pricing page title, checked 17 September 2026, lists Free, Pro at €1.99/month and Ultimate at €4.99/month; the plan details load client-side, so confirm limits on the live page. It is also more than a notebook: our earlier research found built-in prompt scoring and an optimize feature.
AIPRM, if you want a large public template library inside ChatGPT rather than your own private one. We cover it in detail, with dated ratings, in our AIPRM alternatives guide.
Promptly, if all you need is a quick free rewriter and you do not care about a library. Several unrelated extensions share that name, which our Promptly alternatives piece untangles.
Langfuse, if you are a developer and SpacePrompts' API is the feature you actually care about. Its documentation describes open-source prompt management with versioning, and its pricing page lists a free Hobby cloud plan with self-hosting as an option. It is an LLM engineering platform, so expect tracing and evaluations alongside prompts, and a steeper learning curve than a browser extension.
PromptLayer, if you want a hosted prompt registry with evals and your team is already shipping LLM features. Its pricing page, checked 17 September 2026, shows a free plan limited to 10 prompts and a Pro plan at $49/month with unlimited prompts. That is a different price bracket from SpacePrompts, aimed at a different buyer.
Snack Prompt, if what you want is a public feed of other people's prompts and automations. Our Snack Prompt alternatives review covers its current state.
For teams comparing several of these side by side, our sibling guide on the best prompt sharing tools for teams goes deeper on permissions and seat pricing.
Where SpacePrompts is genuinely the better pick
A comparison that never concedes is an advert, so here is where we would send you to SpacePrompts over us.
You want a free library. Fifty saved prompts for $0, with version history and export, is a better free offer than ours. We give free users daily enhancements, not storage.
You are building a product. SpacePrompts lets your app fetch the current prompt version over HTTPS. That separates prompt edits from code deploys, which is exactly what small AI product teams need. We have no public API.
You want to test before you save. The built-in Playground runs a prompt against a model and the Evaluator scores it, all in one place. We improve prompts, but we do not run them for you inside our app.
Your team is five people or fewer. At $9 a month billed annually for up to five members, SpacePrompts' Team plan undercuts per-seat pricing for a small group. Our Team plan is $10 a month plus $3.50 per member, which makes more sense as the team grows toward our 20-member limit.
You bring your own key. SpacePrompts lists BYOK on the free plan. Some people prefer paying a model provider directly and using the tool only as a manager.
Where does SpacePrompts fall short?
Mostly in scope, not quality. The daily AI allowance on Free is tight. The Team plan stops at five. The product is text-first, with image and video prompts handled by separate free web tools rather than inside the manager. And the user base is small, which means fewer community guides, fewer third-party reviews and less evidence about how the product behaves under heavy use.
What should you test in your first week with any alternative?
Whichever tool you pick, a week of real use tells you more than any comparison table, ours included. Run these five checks before you move your whole library.
Retrieval speed. Save twenty prompts you actually use, then time how long it takes to find and insert one from inside ChatGPT or Claude. If it takes longer than typing the prompt from memory, the tool will not stick.
Variables. Save one prompt with a placeholder for a client name or product. Check whether the tool fills it in for you, asks you for the value, or leaves the raw placeholder in the chat. Tools handle this very differently.
The daily cap. Use the free tier on a normal workday and note when you hit the limit. Three AI actions a day and five a day feel very different by mid-afternoon.
Sharing. If you work with others, invite one colleague and have them use a shared prompt without help. Permission models that look simple on a pricing page can be confusing in practice.
Leaving. Try the export before you depend on the tool. A product that makes getting your data out easy is one you can adopt with less risk. SpacePrompts scores well here on paper; confirm it does in practice too.
How do you move off SpacePrompts without losing anything?
SpacePrompts advertises export on every plan, which makes this easier than with most tools. Here is the checklist we would use.
SPACEPROMPTS MIGRATION CHECKLIST
1. Export your library to JSON (keeps structure) and Excel (easy to review).
Both are listed on the Free plan as of 17 Sep 2026.
2. If you used guest mode, sign in first and confirm those prompts synced
before exporting. Guest prompts may only exist in that one browser.
3. Note which prompts use variables or custom fields. Check how your new
tool writes variables before pasting, so placeholders still resolve.
4. If your app fetches prompts through the SpacePrompts API, move that
integration LAST. Point it at the new source, test, then switch.
5. Keep the export file. Only cancel once every prompt you care about
works in the new tool.
If your destination is Prompt Architects, note that global variables use lowercase snake_case in double curly braces, such as {{client_name}}, and are meant for short values. Longer reference text belongs in a Context instead.
Stop rewriting prompts. Start shipping.
Works with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Midjourney, Ideogram, Veo3 & Kling. 4.8★ on the Chrome Web Store.
Create An AccountThe bottom line
SpacePrompts is a real, maintained prompt manager with a better free plan than ours, an API we do not have, and a Playground for testing. The honest reasons to leave are specific: you need more than three free AI actions a day, a team larger than five, image and video prompt generation, or an MCP server that works inside Claude and Cursor. If one of those is your reason, pick the alternative above that matches it. If none are, stay put, and check back on its pricing page, because a product shipping this often will change.
