HARPA AI vs Sider: Automation vs Assistance

HARPA vs Sider: HARPA is built to automate browser tasks with commands you define; Sider is an all-round AI assistant with an agent added. Which job you need decides it.

TL;DR: HARPA vs Sider is automation against assistance. HARPA is a browser agent built around reusable commands you can schedule or trigger from Zapier, Make or n8n, from $12 a month billed annually. Sider is an all-round AI assistant for chat, reading, translation and creation, with an agent called Hand added. Choose by your main job.

HARPA and Sider both sit in your browser and both connect to ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, so they end up on the same shortlists. But they were built for different jobs. HARPA started as automation and added chat. Sider started as a chat sidebar and added an agent. Most readers need one of these, not both, so the useful question in any HARPA vs Sider comparison is which kind of help you want.

A disclosure: we make Prompt Architects, which is neither of these. It is a prompt builder and library, and we compare it with Sider directly in Prompt Architects vs Sider. We have no stake in which of these two you choose. Everything below comes from each vendor's own site and Chrome Web Store listing, read on 17 September 2026. We did not create an account on either tool or run an automation, so this article compares what each company documents, not our own test results.

What is the difference between HARPA and Sider in one sentence each?

HARPA automates repeatable browser work that you define once. Sider helps you read, write and create across the web, and can take on a task you describe.

HARPA's name, per its own FAQ, stands for High Availability Robotic Process Automation. It describes itself as a hybrid AI and automation engine that can read a page, navigate, click, extract data, run it through a language model and paste the result back, or pass it to Zapier and similar tools.

Sider describes itself as an AI sidebar and agent for the browser. Its pricing page groups the product into Chat, Hand (the agent), Code (website customisation) and Create (images, video and slides), with a research workspace called Wisebase and apps for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows.

If you want to review each tool on its own first, see our HARPA AI review and our Sider AI review.

What does automation mean in HARPA?

In HARPA, automation means commands: saved recipes made of steps, some of which call an AI model and some of which act on the page. You build a command once and run it again whenever you need it.

HARPA's FAQ draws a clear line between a prompt and a command. A prompt is a single instruction to a model. An AI command is a sequence of steps, for example open a page, click a button, extract messages, send them to a model to find the important ones, and email the result. HARPA says it ships with more than 100 ready-made commands, and you can write your own.

A few details show how far that goes:

  • Page-aware parameters. Commands can pull in the current page or a YouTube transcript through placeholders such as {{page}} and {{transcript}}, according to HARPA's FAQ.
  • Monitoring. All paid plans list monitoring prices and pages, and HARPA says it can check pages on a schedule and alert you when they change.
  • Scheduling and advanced automation. These are included on the for Pros and for Life plans and are not included on for Everyone, per the pricing table.
  • Remote control. HARPA's homepage says you can control your browser from Zapier, Make.com and n8n, and scrape data from websites.
  • Local operation. HARPA says it runs on your computer and does not send or store website data on its servers, while the prompts you run are sent to the model provider you choose.

This design suits work that repeats: the same report every Monday, the same competitor pages checked daily, the same data pulled from a set of listings.

What does assistance mean in Sider, and where does Hand fit?

In Sider, assistance means help with whatever is on your screen: chat, summaries, translation, writing and creation. Hand adds a way to hand over a task in plain language.

Sider's Chrome Web Store listing describes group chat with several models, chat with PDFs, images and audio, webpage and YouTube summaries, writing help in any text box, full-page and PDF translation, image editing tools and a Prompt Library. Its pricing page adds image and video generation with several named models, slides and documents.

Hand is Sider's agent. Sider says it researches, compares, extracts, organises and produces results across the websites you already use, and that you can watch its progress step by step and stay in control. The pricing page also describes a dedicated cloud computer that gives Hand a round-the-clock workspace to browse and complete tasks, with higher plans getting a stronger one. Sider's own pricing page code uses both Hand and an older name, Claw, for this agent, so you may see either name.

The key difference is how you instruct each tool. With Sider's Hand, you describe the task and the agent works out the steps. With HARPA, you or HARPA's library define the steps in advance, and the command runs the same way every time. Describing a task is quicker for one-off work. Defined steps are easier to rely on for work that repeats on a schedule.

How do their pricing models differ?

HARPA sells fixed plans with a token allowance and lets you bring your own model access. Sider sells credit-based plans where one pool of credits covers every feature. That difference matters more than the prices themselves.

The biggest cost difference is HARPA's web session connections. If you already pay for ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, HARPA can use that account in your browser, so your existing subscription does much of the work. Sider runs models through its own credits. Our HARPA review works through the Megatoken math, and our Sider review explains Sider's credit tiers, so we will not repeat either here.

For Sider's current prices, open sider.ai/pricing in a browser. For HARPA's, see harpa.ai/pricing. HARPA's own page is not fully consistent: its plan table lists GPT-5.4, Sonnet 4.6 and Gemini 3.1 Pro as cloud models, while its top-up offer on the same page mentions GPT-5.2, Sonnet 4.5 and Gemini 3 Pro. Check which models you will actually get before paying.

How do they compare on reach and adoption?

Sider is much larger and runs on more platforms. HARPA is a browser extension with a smaller, more specialised user base.

On 17 September 2026, Sider's Chrome listing showed version 5.32.9, updated 15 September 2026. HARPA's showed version 14.4.0, updated 29 June 2026. Both vendors publish larger figures on their own sites: Sider claims more than 10 million active users, and HARPA says it is trusted by 500,000 professionals, compared with 400,000 on its Chrome listing. Those site figures may count other browsers or platforms. We cannot check how either company calculates them.

Sider offers apps for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows, and its FAQ says a subscription bought in the extension works across supported platforms. HARPA is a browser extension. Its FAQ answers questions about Chrome, Brave and Edge, and its automation depends on running inside your browser.

Where do HARPA and Sider overlap?

More than their positioning suggests. Both now cover the basics of an AI sidebar, so the choice rarely depends on these shared features.

According to each vendor's own pages, both tools offer:

  • Chat with several major models from a sidebar on any page, opened with a keyboard shortcut.
  • YouTube and PDF summaries. HARPA lists a YouTube summarizer and PDF and file summaries on every paid plan. Sider lists YouTube summaries and ChatPDF.
  • AI next to search results. HARPA lists search engines including Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo. Sider's listing says it adds answers to Google, Bing, Baidu, Yandex and DuckDuckGo.
  • Gmail help. HARPA describes sorting incoming mail, summarising threads and drafting replies. Sider lists a Gmail writing assistant, and Hand can sort an inbox.
  • Ready-made prompts. HARPA advertises more than 100 page-aware automations and a library of copywriting prompts. Sider has a Prompt Library you open with a slash.

If these shared features are all you need, pick the tool whose interface you prefer after a day on each free tier. The real differences only appear once you need scheduling, your own model access, apps beyond the browser, or image and video creation.

Which is safer to give a logged-in browser?

Both tools can act on sites where you are logged in, so treat either one like a new team member with access to your accounts. This is a feature of browser agents in general, not a flaw in one product.

HARPA works through your own browser sessions. Sider says Hand can work on websites where you are logged in, and it also describes a cloud computer for its agent. Before you let either one act on email, banking, shopping or admin pages:

  1. Start with read-only tasks. Summarise, extract and compare before you allow any clicking or form filling.
  2. Watch the first runs. Sider says you can follow Hand step by step. In HARPA, run a new command by hand before you schedule it.
  3. Keep sensitive accounts separate. Use a separate browser profile for agent work so it only sees the sites it needs.
  4. Read each privacy policy. HARPA and Sider each publish one. Check what is stored, where, and for how long.
  5. Be careful with page content. Agents read web pages, and a page can contain text written to mislead an AI. Our guide to prompt injection explains the risk.

Which one should you choose?

Choose HARPA if your work repeats and you want to define it once. Choose Sider if your work varies and you want an assistant on hand all day.

If you are still unsure, write your task down before you choose. A clear task description helps with either tool: HARPA needs it to build a command, and Sider's Hand needs it to work out the steps.

TASK SPEC (fill in before choosing HARPA or Sider)

Goal: what finished result do I want? (a table, an email, an alert, a file)
Trigger: when should it run? (once / on demand / every day at 9:00 / when a page changes)
Inputs: which pages, accounts or files does it need?
Steps I would do by hand:
  1.
  2.
  3.
Actions allowed: read only / fill forms / send messages / buy or submit (be careful)
Output goes to: screen / email / spreadsheet / Zapier, Make or n8n
Check: how will I know it worked?

If "Trigger" is scheduled or "Output goes to" is another app -> lean HARPA
If the steps change every time or you mostly read and write -> lean Sider

Whichever you choose, the prompts inside your commands and tasks still decide the quality of the results. That is the one part of this workflow Prompt Architects handles: it helps you write, improve and save those prompts so you can reuse them in either tool.
