TL;DR: Nonprofit AI discounts are real and large. On September 16, 2026, OpenAI and Anthropic each advertised up to 75% off their team and enterprise plans, Google and Microsoft offered AI-enabled productivity suites at no charge to eligible nonprofits, and Canva's nonprofit program was free for up to 50 users. Educators have their own set, led by ChatGPT for Teachers.
Nonprofit AI discounts are one of the most useful things a small organisation can find and one of the worst-documented. Search results tend to be lists copied from other lists, with percentages nobody re-checked. So this one is short on purpose. Every program below was read on the vendor's own page on September 16, 2026, and the link is next to it.
If a program isn't here, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It means we didn't confirm it on the vendor's own site today. Students have a separate list: student discounts on AI tools.
Which AI tools offer nonprofit discounts?
Five major vendors publish a nonprofit program on their own sites. Here's the summary, then the detail:
| Vendor | Nonprofit offer (as published) | Verification |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI (ChatGPT) | Up to 75% off ChatGPT Business or Enterprise | Contact sales |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Up to 75% off Team and Enterprise; Team listed at $8/user/month under 20 seats | Goodstack (Team) or sales (Enterprise) |
| Workspace for Nonprofits at no charge, plus discounts on higher editions | Goodstack, 2–14 working days | |
| Microsoft | Business Basic with Copilot Chat free up to 300 users; Copilot add-on discounted | Microsoft Nonprofits sign-up |
| Canva | Pro features free for one team of up to 50 users | Canva eligibility review |
OpenAI for Nonprofits
OpenAI first announced its nonprofit program on May 30, 2024, at 20% off ChatGPT Team (now Business) and 50% off Enterprise. The same page now carries a newer line: "Update on Feb 6, 2026: Nonprofits can now access up to a 75% discount on ChatGPT Business or ChatGPT Enterprise." The ChatGPT pricing page repeats it and says to contact the sales team to get started.
Two practical notes. "Up to" means the percentage you get isn't stated for your case, so ask. And ChatGPT's pricing FAQ says "Business plans are available starting at 2 users", so a one-person charity is buying for at least two.

Claude for Nonprofits (Anthropic)
Anthropic's announcement says: "Nonprofits are now eligible for a discount of up to 75% on Team and Enterprise plans." Its current nonprofit page is more specific for small teams. It listed the Team plan "For organizations purchasing fewer than 20 seats" at $8 per user per month, with a "Minimum 2 seats", and a footnote that prices shown don't include tax. Larger organisations are sent to sales.
Eligibility is broader than most programs. Anthropic says: "Nonprofit pricing is open to registered 501(c)(3) organizations and their international equivalents, as well as K-12 public and private schools." Certain mission-based healthcare providers also qualify. Team customers verify through Goodstack, which Anthropic describes as "a quick (~2-3 minute) verification".
The program also includes a free course, AI Fluency for Nonprofits, built with GivingTuesday, and connectors to Blackbaud, Candid and Benevity.

Google for Nonprofits
Google's page describes "a suite of no-cost and discounted tools" for eligible organisations, available in "180+ geographies". The FAQ lists Google Workspace for Nonprofits among the products provided at no charge, alongside "nonprofit-specific discounts for Google Workspace, including Business Standard, Business Plus and Enterprise editions". Google's own training pages for the program teach Gemini and Gemini Notebook.
Verification runs through Goodstack, and Google says: "Most requests will be reviewed in 2–14 working days." Schools, universities, hospitals and government bodies aren't eligible, though Google notes that philanthropic arms of educational organisations and foundations tied to healthcare organisations are.

Microsoft Nonprofits
Microsoft lists Microsoft 365 Business Basic for nonprofits with "Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat" and "support for free up to 300 users". It describes Copilot Chat as "included in your Microsoft 365 subscription at no extra charge." The full Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on is listed "at a discounted price of $25.50 (USD) per user/month, paid yearly", and Business Premium at $5.50 per user per month, paid yearly.

Canva Nonprofits
Canva's AI tools come with Canva Pro, and Canva says its nonprofit status "gives you free access to all the premium features of Canva Pro". The free allowance covers "one team of up to 50 users", and Canva says "Additional seats are 50% off".
Canva's exclusions are worth reading before you apply. It lists as not eligible "government agencies, political organizations, educational institutions, for-profit companies, most other 501(c) types, and grant-making foundations." If you're a school, see the education section below instead. For getting more out of Canva's AI once you're in, our Canva Magic Studio prompt templates are a good start.

Which AI tools offer educator discounts?
Several, and the best ones are free. They're mostly aimed at K-12 teachers, with a few for university staff.
| Program | Who it's for | Offer (as published) | Verification |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT for Teachers | Verified U.S. K-12 educators | Free (end date differs between two OpenAI pages) | SheerID |
| Canva Education | K-12 educators, students, qualified districts | 100% free | Education email or proof of employment |
| GitHub Copilot Pro | Verified teachers on GitHub Education | Free | GitHub Education application |
| Notion Education Plan | Students and teachers at accredited colleges and universities | Free, one-member workspace | School email, re-verified yearly |
| Perplexity Education Pro | Verified students and educators | $10/month | SheerID |
| Claude for Nonprofits | K-12 public and private schools | Nonprofit pricing (see above) | Goodstack or sales |
ChatGPT for Teachers
OpenAI calls it "A free version of ChatGPT built for teachers". Its announcement says it is "Free for verified U.S. K–12 educators through June 2028", verified by SheerID, and that "After that, we may adjust pricing". Features listed include search, file uploads, connectors and image generation, in a workspace OpenAI says isn't used to train its models by default.
Here's the inconsistency. On the same day, the FAQ on OpenAI's ChatGPT pricing page described ChatGPT for Teachers as "a free plan for verified U.S. K–12 educators through June 2027". One page says 2028, the other 2027. We can't tell you which is current. Confirm with OpenAI before planning a school year around it.
For universities, the same FAQ mentions ChatGPT Edu but gives no public price.

Canva Education
Canva says Canva Education is "100% free, with no paywalls or nasty surprises", and commits that it "will remain 100% free for K-12 (primary and secondary) educators, their students, as well as qualified school districts and institutions." Teachers sign up with an education email or upload proof of employment, and Canva says it will verify "within a few days".

GitHub Copilot Pro for teachers
GitHub's docs say verified teachers on GitHub Education qualify for free Copilot Pro, and that "GitHub reevaluates your eligibility every month." One catch: if you get free access, "you won’t be able to cancel your plan" in the usual way, so read GitHub's plan-management page if you want to switch later.

Notion Education Plan
Notion says "Individual students and teachers at accredited colleges and universities can upgrade to the Education Plan for free at any time." It's a one-member workspace, and you must "verify your student status once a year with your school email." Notion is strict about proof: "We don’t accept student IDs or other documentation to verify a student or educator status." Check what the Education Plan includes before assuming Notion's AI features are part of it; we didn't confirm that on this page.

Perplexity Education Pro
Perplexity's help center lists "Education Pro ($10/mo with verification from SheerID)" and says it is "offered to verified students and educators at a discount." One note: the same article describes it as including unlimited Pro Searches while its comparison table lists weekly limits for the plan. We cover that kind of mismatch in the hidden costs of AI tools.

How does nonprofit and educator verification work?
Mostly through third parties, and the paperwork is predictable. Google and Anthropic both use Goodstack for nonprofits. OpenAI and Perplexity use SheerID for educators. Notion and Canva check school email addresses, and Canva also accepts proof of employment.
Before you start, gather:
- Your organisation's legal name, exactly as registered
- Your registration or charity number (in the U.S., your EIN and 501(c)(3) status)
- A work email on your organisation's own domain
- A document showing you work there, such as a letter on letterhead or a staff page listing you
- For teachers, your school's name and an employment document or school email
Timing varies a lot. Anthropic describes its Team check as taking about two to three minutes. Google says most requests take 2 to 14 working days. Canva says a few days for teachers. If you need a tool for a deadline, start verification first.
How do you ask an AI company for a discount it doesn't advertise?
Ask directly, in writing, with proof attached. Plenty of software companies have unlisted nonprofit or education pricing, and the rest sometimes make exceptions. The worst answer is no.
A few things improve your odds:
- Write from your organisation's domain. A Gmail address reads as a personal request.
- Lead with facts, not need. Registered status, team size, and the specific use.
- Ask for the annual price. Vendors have more room on annual deals. (Whether annual is right for you is a separate question; annual vs monthly AI billing covers it.)
- Get it in writing. Ask for the discounted price and its end date in an email before you pay.
- Ask once, politely, then move on. Many vendors have a free plan that may be enough.
Here's a template you can adapt:
Subject: Nonprofit / education pricing for [Product]
Hi [Vendor] team,
I'm [name], [role] at [organisation], a registered [501(c)(3) /
charity no. XXXX / public school] in [country]. We're a team of
[number] and would like to use [Product] for [specific use, e.g.
drafting grant reports and volunteer emails].
Do you offer nonprofit or education pricing for [plan name]? If not
publicly, would you consider a discount for an annual plan for
[number] seats?
I've attached proof of our status. Happy to share anything else
you need.
Thanks,
[name]
[title], [organisation]
[website]
If you'd like help tailoring it, paste the template into any AI assistant with: "Rewrite this for [vendor], keep it under 120 words, and keep every factual detail I gave you unchanged."
What should you watch for before accepting a discount?
Five things catch organisations out.
- Free periods end. ChatGPT for Teachers has a stated end date, and OpenAI says pricing may change after it. Put the date in a calendar.
- Eligibility gets re-checked. GitHub re-evaluates monthly. Notion re-verifies yearly. If a teacher changes schools, access can lapse.
- Seat minimums. Both ChatGPT Business and Claude's nonprofit Team plan start at two seats.
- Tax and add-ons. Anthropic's listed price excludes tax. Microsoft's full Copilot is a paid add-on even for nonprofits.
- Who owns the account. Set up organisational tools under an organisational email, not a volunteer's personal one, so access survives staff turnover.

Does Prompt Architects offer a nonprofit or educator discount?
No. We don't have a published nonprofit or education program, and we'd rather say that than leave you guessing.
What we do have, at the time of writing (September 16, 2026, during a launch promotion):
- Free plan: 5 prompt enhancements per day, forever, no credit card required, according to our FAQ.
- Pro: $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year, for 200 prompt enhancements a month.
- Team: $10 a month plus $3.50 per teammate, for 2 to 20 teammates sharing an unlimited quota, a prompt library and saved context.
- Refunds: a 14-day money-back guarantee on first-time paid purchases.
For many small teams, the Free plan or a single Pro seat covers the prompt side of the work, and pairs well with a discounted ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini plan from the list above. Our plan works inside those assistants rather than replacing them. If you have a specific situation, our contact page reaches a real person.
Which program should your organisation start with?
Start with what you already use. If your staff live in Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, apply there first, because the AI comes with tools you already manage. If you need a dedicated assistant for grant writing or reports, compare OpenAI's and Anthropic's nonprofit programs and ask both for a quote. If design is the bottleneck, Canva's nonprofit program costs nothing for up to 50 people.
Teachers in U.S. K-12 schools should claim ChatGPT for Teachers and Canva Education first. Both are free, and verification is quick compared with most nonprofit programs. For more budget-friendly tools, see the best AI prompt tools under $10 a month.
