Free Midjourney Prompt Generator (V8.2 Parameters Included)

TL;DR: This is a free, copy-paste Midjourney prompt template, not a hosted generator: Midjourney itself still does the rendering, and that's a paid subscription. The template below produces a syntactically correct prompt for V8.2, Midjourney's current default version as of September 2026. Every parameter claim on this page was checked against Midjourney's own Help Center on 1 September 2026, including which flags (--q, --oref, the :: multi-prompt syntax) no longer apply.

Is there a real, free Midjourney prompt generator?

Depends what you mean by "generator." If you mean a hosted tool that types a prompt in, hits a button, and hands back a Midjourney image: no, and be skeptical of anything that claims otherwise for free. Midjourney is the only thing that renders a Midjourney image, and Midjourney is a paid subscription with no free tier of its own.

What this page gives you instead is the thing people actually search for when they type that phrase: a prompt template. Fill in the bracketed placeholders, paste the result into ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney's own web Conversational mode, or the Discord Imagine bar, and you get back a prompt with correctly ordered parameters for Midjourney's current model. What's Midjourney's current default version, and why does it matter here?

Midjourney's own Version article, last updated 1 September 2026, states it plainly: the current default Midjourney version is V8.2. It became the default on July 24, 2026, replacing V8.1, which had held that spot since June 10. V8.0 was an early-access alpha that launched March 17, 2026, and stopped being available for use on the same day V8.2 shipped.

That matters for a "parameter generator" for one concrete reason: several parameters that are all over older tutorials and roundups simply don't apply to V8.2. A template built for V7 will hand you flags that Midjourney's current default silently mishandles or ignores. The rest of this page is organized around that split: what still works, and what's stranded.

One caution worth passing on: even Midjourney's own documentation hasn't fully caught up with itself. Its Legacy Features article, also updated 1 September 2026, still ends with the line "For information on the current default version (V7), please visit our Version article." V8.2 took that title a full five weeks earlier, so two of the company's own pages disagree about which version is current, on the same day. Date-check anything you read about Midjourney, this page included.

The free Midjourney prompt template

Here's the skeleton. Copy it, replace every bracketed placeholder, delete the bracket characters, and paste the result wherever you generate.

Two things to notice. First, every bracket in the skeleton got a specific answer, not a vague one: "a weathered lighthouse keeper in his sixties" beats "an old man" the same way a named street beats "a city." Second, the parameter string comes last, in one unbroken run, exactly as Midjourney's own Parameter List instructs: parameters always go at the end, with a space before each --, and no commas or periods inside them.

Which Midjourney parameters actually work on V8.1 and V8.2?

This table mirrors Midjourney's own Feature Compatibility chart from its Version article (checked 1 September 2026), which merges V8.1 and V8.2 into a single column. Where the icon on Midjourney's page is a check mark, we call it supported; where it's a no-entry symbol, we call it unsupported.

The parameters worth setting by hand

These are the flags that consistently earn their place in a V8.2 prompt, per Midjourney's current documentation:

• --ar (aspect ratio). Default 1:1. No decimals: write --ar 139:100 instead of --ar 1.39:1. Our full aspect ratio reference covers the common ratios and their use cases in more depth.
• --c or --chaos (0-100, default 0). Higher values push the four results further apart from each other and from your literal prompt. Good for exploring; bad when you already know what you want.
• --s or --stylize (0-1000, default 100). Lower values stay closer to your literal description; higher values let Midjourney add more of its own artistic interpretation.
• --w or --weird (0-3000, default 0). Pushes toward unconventional, experimental results. Not fully compatible with --seed.
• --raw. Turns off Midjourney's default aesthetic embellishment, what Midjourney's own Raw article calls switching off the auto-pilot. Simple prompts come out closer to photo-real; detailed prompts get followed more literally.
• --no. Excludes named elements. Watch for compound phrases. Midjourney's own docs warn that --no modern clothing gets parsed as two separate exclusions ("no modern" and "no clothing") and can misfire the content filter. Name the specific clothing you do want instead.
• --seed (0-4294967295). Locks the starting noise pattern for testing. Not reliable across sessions, and Midjourney explicitly says not to use it with Turbo mode.
• --repeat or --r. Runs the same prompt multiple times in one submission. How many repeats you get depends on your Midjourney plan (Basic 2-4, Standard 2-10, Pro/Mega 2-40), and it only works in Fast or Turbo modes, not Relax.
• --sref (style reference). Either an image URL or one of Midjourney's internal style codes. Pair it with --sw (0-1000, default 100) to control how strongly it pulls. Note that --sv, which picks between style-reference algorithm versions, is documented only for V6 and V7; Midjourney's own Style Reference page has nothing published for V8.x, so treat it as unverified there rather than guessing a value.
• --tile. Produces one tile whose edges line up cleanly against copies of itself, for repeating patterns. Don't upscale a tile image; it breaks the match.
• --p (Personalization). Applies your Personalization profile, built by picking favorite images on Midjourney's Personalize page. Midjourney confirms your V7 Global Profile carries over and works directly on V8.1 and V8.2; there's no separate Global V8 profile yet, and a profile you build specifically for V8.x doesn't work back on V7.

Which GPU speed should you use with these parameters?

Midjourney bills every image against your subscription's GPU time, split across three speed modes, and the mode you pick changes how several of the parameters above actually behave. Fast mode draws from the monthly Fast-time allowance that resets on your billing date. Relax mode is unlimited but queues your job behind other users (Midjourney's own docs describe waits of up to roughly 30 minutes), and it's only available on Standard, Pro, and Mega plans. Turbo mode trades double your Fast time for roughly four times the speed, and it's also where a couple of the parameters above stop cooperating: --seed isn't reliable in Turbo, and per the Version chart, Turbo mode itself is unsupported on V8.1 & V8.2 entirely.

Relax mode carries its own restrictions worth knowing before you queue a batch: permutation prompts, the --repeat parameter, HD-resolution videos, and the legacy Max Upscale tool are all unavailable while you're in Relax. If your prompt leans on --repeat to generate several variants in one submission, you need Fast or Turbo mode, not Relax.

None of this changes what you type into the parameter string. It changes which of those parameters actually behave the way Midjourney's own documentation describes once you hit submit.

Parameters that are stranded on V8.1 and V8.2: leave these out

Midjourney's own compatibility chart marks each of these unsupported on the current default version. Templates copied from older guides routinely still include them.

• --quality / --q. No-entry icon on the Version chart for the merged V8.1 & V8.2 column. Midjourney's separate Quality article, last touched the same week, only ever discusses version 7 and doesn't mention V8 at all. It's simply stale, not a second, conflicting answer.
• Turbo mode. Unsupported on V8.1 & V8.2 per the same chart, and the GPU Speed article's own banner says the same for V8.1 specifically.
• The :: multi-prompt weighting syntax. Midjourney's Multi-Prompts & Weights article lists the versions it works on; the current default isn't among them. The --no parameter is unaffected; it doesn't depend on :: to function.
• --oref / --ow (Omni Reference). Midjourney's own article says Omni Reference can only be used with Midjourney version 7, full stop, and directs V8.x users to the Edit Model instead. If you want a consistent character or object on V8.2, that's the tool, not --oref.
• Niji. A separate model line, not selectable alongside V8.1/V8.2 per the chart.
• --sv on V8.x. Not a hard "no" so much as an absence: Midjourney documents style-reference versions for V6 and V7 only. Nothing is published for V8.x, so don't assume a specific --sv value carries over.

If your goal is a consistent character across a whole shoot and the Edit Model isn't cutting it, our V7 examples post is still the right reference: V7 keeps Omni Reference, Draft Mode's original behavior, and Quality, and nothing above says you have to abandon it. Sitting on V7 for a specific job is a legitimate choice, not a mistake, as long as you know you're making it.

Why is my prompt still coming out generic?

Parameters control the frame around the image. They don't fix a prompt that only describes the frame and never the subject. If you've filled in every bracket above and the result still looks like stock art, the problem usually isn't a missing flag. Our prompt template above only helps if every bracket gets a genuinely specific answer, not a placeholder-shaped one like "a person" or "a nice view." Do you need a paid plan for any of this?

Two separate things are being asked here, and they have two separate answers.

Midjourney itself: yes, always. Midjourney does not offer a no-cost rendering option; an active paid subscription is required to generate images at all, regardless of which parameters you use or where you got the prompt text.
