A model asked to "make a study guide on photosynthesis" will write something fluent and confident, whether or not every fact in it is correct, and a wrong fact you didn't catch is worse than no study guide at all, because you'll study it as if it were true. Why Isn't "Summarize My Notes" a Study Guide Prompt?
Because a summary and a study guide do different jobs, and asking for one when you need the other is the most common way this kind of prompt disappoints people. A summary compresses what's already on the page into fewer words. It's useful for a quick refresher the night before, and useless for building understanding you don't already have, because compressing confusing notes just produces a shorter version of the same confusion.
A study guide, done properly, does three things a summary doesn't attempt: it reorganizes scattered material around how the ideas actually connect, it tests whether you can apply a concept rather than just recognize it, and it surfaces the specific confusions students tend to have with that material so you can check for them in yourself. The prompts below generate practice questions, explanations, review schedules and quizzes from material you already have. What they are not built for is producing an essay, a lab report, or any other assignment for you to submit as your own work. That line matters for two separate reasons: your own learning, and your institution's policy.
On learning, the honest case for AI here is narrow and specific. Explaining a concept back to you in a different way, quizzing you on material you've already studied, and organizing scattered notes into a structure you can review are all things that require you to still do the remembering and the applying. Having AI produce the coursework itself skips exactly the step that makes the class worth taking.
On policy, check your actual assignment brief and course handbook rather than assuming either direction. Institutions vary, and the same institution can allow AI for one assignment and ban it for another in the same term. Where a policy exists, follow it, including any disclosure requirement. Where it doesn't say, the safer default is treating "helped me study" and "wrote it for me" as different acts, because most policies that do exist draw the line roughly there.

Two things this template does deliberately. It puts the grounding instruction first, so the model treats the rest of the prompt as operating on your material rather than on its own general knowledge of the subject. And it asks for the answer key to explain reasoning, not just state the correct option, because a study guide that only tells you which answer is right teaches you to recognize that one question, not the underlying concept.
How Do You Get an AI to Explain One Concept Three Different Ways?
One explanation either clicks or it doesn't, and when it doesn't, asking the same model to "explain it again" usually gets you a rephrased version of the exact wording that already failed. Asking for three genuinely different framings, deliberately, tends to work better:

The closing instruction, a question that tests understanding rather than recall of the explanation's own wording, is what turns this from a reading exercise into an actual check. If you can't answer it, the explanation didn't land, and it's worth trying a different one of the three rather than assuming you now understand.
A concept like supply and demand shows why the three framings genuinely differ rather than just restating each other. The analogy might compare price to water finding its level between two connected tanks. The step-by-step walkthrough would trace what happens to price and quantity when supply shifts left while demand holds still, one step at a time. The worked example would take a specific market, say, a shortage of a component after a factory closure, and run the actual mechanism through it. A student who only gets the analogy can usually describe the idea in conversation but freezes on a graph question, which is exactly the gap the closing comprehension question is built to catch.
How Do You Turn Notes Into Practice Questions That Test Understanding, Not Recall?
A model asked for "quiz questions" defaults to questions that can be answered by matching a phrase in your notes to a phrase in the question, which tests whether you can find things, not whether you understand them. Naming the question style fixes this:

An "explain why" question would ask why a plant cell placed in salt water shrinks rather than bursts, forcing you to connect the definition to the direction water actually moves. An applied question would describe a new scenario your notes never mentioned, a food preserved in a heavy sugar syrup, and ask what happens to bacteria on its surface and why. Only the third one tells you whether you could handle an exam question your notes didn't anticipate.
How Do You Build a Spaced-Repetition Review Schedule From a Syllabus?
Spaced review, reviewing material at increasing intervals rather than cramming it once, is a well-documented way to make studying stick, and it is also the part students skip because building the schedule by hand is tedious. Hand the tedium to the model, but keep the input honest about how much time you actually have:

For material where a wrong recalled fact carries real consequences, exam content that also matters for licensure or clinical practice, run the fact-check pass without exception and treat anything marked UNCERTAIN as unverified until you've checked it against your actual textbook or a source your instructor assigned.
Two things make this pass worth the extra few minutes rather than a step people skip.
