TL;DR: The best AI prompt manager extension in 2026 depends on where you type. Text Blaze and Right-Click Prompt win on raw save, search and sync mechanics across any text field. Prompt Architects matches them and adds prompt enhancement plus an MCP server. AIPRM still has the largest catalogue and install base.

What is the best AI prompt manager extension in 2026?

There is no single answer, and any page that gives you one is selling something. Three extensions max out the four mechanics that matter (Text Blaze, Right-Click Prompt and Prompt Architects), and they win for three different people.

So before the opinions, here is the evidence. Every figure below was read off the extension's own Chrome Web Store listing on 26 August 2026. Nothing is estimated.

Sorted by install count, largest first. Two things jump out. The most-installed extension in the category has the second-lowest rating in the table. And two listings have not shipped a build in over a year.

How should you score an AI prompt manager extension?

Four mechanics decide whether a prompt library survives past month two. Everything else is taste.

Save. How many actions between "this prompt worked" and "this prompt is in my library, named and tagged"? If it is more than two, you will stop doing it.

Search. At twenty prompts, scrolling works. At two hundred it does not. You need full-text search, tags or folders, or a keyword trigger that fires from the chat box itself.

Sync. Does the same library appear on your second machine without you emailing yourself a file?

Multi-model. Does it work in Claude and Gemini and Grok, or only in ChatGPT? This is the axis that ages worst. A ChatGPT-only tool bought in 2024 is a liability now.

Each is scored 0–3 against published capability, for a maximum of 12.

How do the 12 extensions score?

A three-way tie at the top is the honest result, and it is more useful than a forced ranking. The rubric measures whether an extension is a competent filing cabinet. It says nothing about whether the thing you filed was any good.

Where do rivals beat Prompt Architects?

Plenty of places, and pretending otherwise would waste your time.

Install base. AIPRM has 1,000,000 users to our 1,000, and Text Blaze has 800,000. Those are three orders of magnitude. Our 4.8 comes from 36 ratings; AIPRM's 3.9 comes from 3,400. A small sample flatters us.

Catalogue size. AIPRM's listing advertises over 4,500 curated prompt templates contributed by its community. We do not ship a public catalogue at that scale and we are not close.

Working outside AI sites. Text Blaze and Right-Click Prompt fire in any text field on any page: Gmail, a CRM, a Jira ticket. Our extension targets AI surfaces. If half your reusable text is customer email, that is a real loss for us.

Price floor. Text Blaze Pro is $2.99 per month billed yearly at the time of writing. Our Pro is $4.99 per month. They are cheaper.

Local-only privacy. Open Prompt Manager, FlashPrompt and Prompt Manager (Text Expander) never send your library anywhere. Ours runs through an account. If your prompts contain client material you are not allowed to put in a third-party system, install a local-only tool and stop reading here.

Open source. Open Prompt Manager is MIT-licensed with a public repo. We are closed source.

Published free-tier limits. Velocity states its free plan exactly: 10 enhancements every 7 days, 3 context transfers. Our free plan's daily cap is not documented publicly. That is a transparency gap on our side, not theirs.

What does the rubric deliberately leave out?

Two things, and they are why the tie breaks differently for different readers.

Whether the tool improves the prompt. A filing cabinet returns exactly what you put in it. If what you put in was three vague sentences, that is what you get back for the next two years. Enhancement is a separate capability: Velocity and Promptly are built almost entirely around it, and Prompt Architects does both storage and rewriting. Text Blaze, Right-Click Prompt and Open Prompt Manager do not attempt it and do not claim to.

Whether your library escapes the browser. Every extension here lives in a Chrome tab. If you write prompts in Cursor, Claude Code or Claude Desktop, a browser sidebar is the wrong place for them. Of the twelve listings read on 26 August 2026, only Prompt Architects mentions an agent-facing MCP server. Being alone in this table is not the same as being first in the market; MCP prompt servers exist outside the extension category. It does mean the browser-extension field has not caught up. The 12 extensions, one paragraph each

Text Blaze: Templates and Snippets. 4.9 from 1.9K ratings, 800,000 users. Not marketed as an AI tool at all, which is exactly why it wins: it is a mature text expander that happens to be excellent at prompts. Triggers, form fields, dynamic content, folders, team sharing. Free plan is "Free forever"; Pro is $2.99 per user per month billed yearly or $3.49 monthly; Business is $6.99 billed yearly. It will not rewrite anything for you and does not know what a model is.

Right-Click Prompt (RCP). 4.6 from 27 ratings, 2,000 users, shipped 14 August 2026. The listing promises folders, full-text search, version history, usage analytics, cloud sync and team sharing, reachable from a right-click in any text field. The catch is published in their own terms: a 7-day free trial, then $6 per month or $58 per year, with no ongoing free tier. Storage caps are unusually transparent: up to 25,000 prompts across 250 folders, and the extension's Quick Access menu surfaces 30 folders of 10 prompts.

Prompt Architects. 4.8 from 36 ratings, 1,000 users, v1.7.1 shipped 25 August 2026. Ours. The personal library saves, tags, searches and syncs across devices, and Prompt History keeps every enhanced prompt automatically. What separates it from a pure manager is the enhancement pass: a rough sentence becomes a structured instruction with role, task, format and constraints in under two seconds, with no API key required on any plan. Free plan available; Pro $4.99 per month and Advanced $9.99 per month at the time of writing, both on a launch discount. See current pricing.

AIPRM for ChatGPT. 3.9 from 3.4K ratings, 1,000,000 users. Still the category's centre of gravity, and still the best answer if what you want is somebody else's prompt rather than your own. Over 4,500 community templates, advanced search, custom profiles. The rating tells the other half of the story. So does the name: the extension is still "AIPRM for ChatGPT", and multi-model reach is the axis it scores lowest on, even though their web app is now branded for ChatGPT and Claude. Plan prices are loaded dynamically on their pricing page and did not render on fetch, so check aiprm.com/pricing yourself; their FAQ does confirm an unlimited-time free version. AI Prompt Genius. 3.3 from 161 ratings, 100,000 users. The open-source option with real distribution, under a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence. Custom library, folders, tags. Sync runs through Google auth, which is also why the README says Firefox is unsupported. The 3.3 rating is the lowest of any extension here with more than 100 ratings, so read recent reviews before you commit a library to it.

Promptly – AI Prompt Enhancer & Manager. 4.8 from 239 ratings, 60,000 users. Optimisation on one keystroke, a prompt library, and conversation export across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek and Copilot. Their site says "100% Free. No account required. No credit card." No paid tier is published. Version 0.6.0 is a pre-1.0 number on a product with 60,000 users, which is either refreshing honesty or a warning depending on your temperament. Open Prompt Manager. 4.7 from 34 ratings, 3,000 users. The best free option in the table and the one we recommend without reservation to anyone who cannot put prompts in a cloud account. MIT-licensed, no login, no telemetry, tags and variables, three launcher styles, JSON import and export. It names ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Grok, Poe, Mistral, OpenRouter and Perplexity, plus custom sites. It scores 0 on sync by design. Note that the GitHub repo's latest release is 3.0.2 while the store build is 2.7 from 24 May 2026, so the published extension trails the source.

Velocity (Prompt Assistant). 5.0 from 15 ratings, 1,000 users. Primarily an enhancer with a library bolted on, working across ChatGPT, Claude and, per its listing, 20-plus other tools. Free tier is documented down to the number: 10 enhancements every 7 days, 3 context transfers. Pro is $6.99 per month billed yearly, with lifetime tiers at $49, $119 and $299 on a launch offer. A 5.0 from 15 ratings is not a meaningful average yet.

PromptFolder. 4.3 from 26 ratings, 4,000 users. A web app with an extension attached, and a reasonable one. The problem is the date: the store build is version 1.0.7 from 27 September 2024. The website carries a 2026 copyright and looks maintained, so the extension may simply be finished rather than abandoned. Either way, a browser extension that has not shipped in nearly two years has missed two years of Chrome and ChatGPT DOM changes.

Prompt Manager: AI Prompt Library & Text Expander. 4.2 from 10 ratings, 105 users. The smallest install base here and one of the better-designed feature sets. Type .email and it expands. Variables use {{tone | list: "Professional", "Funny"}} syntax with dropdowns. The listing states "100% Free Forever. No paywalls, no limits, no account required" and "100% Local & Off-Grid. Zero telemetry, no cloud syncing risks." Ten ratings is not enough to judge reliability, so keep the JSON export.

AI Prompt Manager. 4.3 from 6 ratings, 444 users. This one matters mostly as a lesson. It is the extension whose title exactly matches the search term this page targets, and its last update was 16 October 2023. ChatGPT-only, no sync mentioned, six ratings. Do not install it because the name matched your query.

PromptStorm. 3.2 from 45 ratings, 20,000 users. A curated prompt catalogue in a sidebar for ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. Its listing does not mention saving your own prompts, which is why it scores 0 on the first axis: it is a prompt source, not a prompt manager. Last build 19 May 2025; the site footer still reads 2023. It is in this list because 20,000 people installed it, not because we would pick it.

Why are there four extensions called "AI Prompt Manager"?

Because Chrome Web Store titles are not unique, and the category is crowded enough that the obvious names are gone.

A store search for ai prompt manager on 26 August 2026 returned four separate listings titled exactly "AI Prompt Manager", on four different extension IDs, with ratings of 4.3, 5.0, 5.0 and 0.0, from four different developers. A search for promptly returned at least nine listings using that name, including three unrelated products at three different domains — and the Promptly reviewed above did not appear on the first page at all.

How do you move a library between these tools without losing it?

Export to JSON, normalise the shape, import. Most of these extensions publish a JSON import and export path; AIPRM, PromptStorm and PromptFolder were the three where we could not confirm one from published material.

Placeholder syntax is the part that breaks. Every tool here uses its own: {{tone | list: "Professional", "Funny"}} in Prompt Manager (Text Expander), a different form in Text Blaze, a different one again elsewhere. Double braces are the most widely readable convention and, importantly, they are harmless plain text in a tool that does not parse them, so the prompt still works; you just fill the blank by hand. Storing the defaults in a separate variables object means you can rebuild the prompt template even when the destination drops the metadata.

Once the file exists, audit it before you import. Near-duplicates are the usual reason a library stops being searchable:

3. Flag any prompt over 400 words. Suggest a shorter version that keeps
   every constraint.
4. Propose a flat tag vocabulary of at most 12 tags and remap every prompt.

Return valid JSON only, matching the input schema, plus a "retired" array
of the ids you dropped and a one-line reason for each.

Which one should you install?

• You type reusable text in lots of places, not just AI chats: Text Blaze. Biggest install base with a good rating, cheapest paid tier, works everywhere.
• You want folders, versions and team sharing and will pay for it: Right-Click Prompt. Just know the 7-day trial is not followed by a free tier.
• Your prompts cannot leave your machine: Open Prompt Manager. MIT, no account, JSON export, and a listing that claims ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok "and 15 other LLMs".
• You want somebody else's prompt library, right now: AIPRM. Nothing else in this table comes close to 4,500 templates.
• Your prompts are the problem, not your filing: Prompt Architects or Velocity. Storage will not fix a vague instruction; rewriting it will.
• You work in Cursor, Claude Code or Claude Desktop as much as a browser: Prompt Architects, because the MCP server puts the same library inside those clients.
